Kompany Performer & Social Media It Girl
Shanni is an Edmonton based actor who has been working with Kompany since early 2015! When she’s not busy on the stage, she lends her talents behind the scenes, keeping up our social media presence and helping with the administrative work that keeps us running! She’s a graduate of MacEwan’s Theatre Arts Program. When she’s not performing with Kompany or her a capella choir, ETown Augmented, she can be found writing (mostly to-do lists), reading, or trying to create something new with veggies in the kitchen!
What’s your earliest memory of the theatre?
Well, it’s not so much theatre, but I have a very early memory of performing! I’ve been hooked ever since I was three years old–I have a very vivid recollection of performing ‘Colours of the Wind’ from Pocahontas in full costume on any coffee table I could crawl my way onto for our friends, family, and neighbours!
What’s been your favourite role with Kompany?
That’s probably a tie between being a Squealy Moo camper all summer, or Amanda Bandana in Alberto the Dancing Alligator!
What’s your favourite children’s book?
I loved (and still love) “Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse” by Kevin Henkes. Also a big fan of Jillian Jiggs.
What’s your favourite sea creature?
What’s your favourite thing to eat?
Mmmmm, roasted beets or sweet potatoes! Or creme brulee!!
Which would you rather have for a pet: a dog, a cat, a fish, or a bird?
A CAT! I’ve been begging my roommates to let me get one for ages.
Which would you rather have for a pet: a shark, a tiger, an alligator, or a t-rex?
A t-rex! Maybe he would let me ride him around town?
Would you rather live in a medieval castle, a futuristic space station or a jurassic jungle?
A medieval castle! I’d love to be a knight!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
New Zealand! All those mountains, with the ocean right there!
What’s your favourite memory of working with Kompany?
All the zany warm up games we played during the Alberto puppet workshops! I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life! Or working with the teens during the mentorship portion of the Camp Squealy Moo shows. I really love all the interesting people Kompany has connected me to!
We know you’re secretly just a very tall 10 year old, but what do you think is something you’ve really carried with you from childhood?
My strong-willed personality; I was always very talkative and independent. I also still have a very ratty, torn up stuffed bunny that I was given when I was a tiny baby in the hospital.
